Heathcliff launches himself out of a cannon presumably located in the Nutmegs’ backyard while the Nutmegs themselves watch from inside. Mrs. Nutmeg says, “I miss him already.”
This. This is the purest, rawest Heathcliff. “Where’s the set-up?” There is none, Chuckles, it’s one panel. “Where’s the explanation?” Fuck you, you’re reading the wrong comic if you want an explanation. “But is this even a joke?” Heathcliff doesn’t need jokes to be absolutely incredible.
I could come up with any number of explanations as to why Heathcliff is performing this absurd action, but this is already perfect. I almost don’t even want to analyze it because it just works so well. I mean, I will, but I’ll put a cut below for those who wish to see it without ruining this sheer art.
